Zuma’s disqualification stems from a 15-month jail sentence for defying a summons to appear before the State Capture Commission. The Independent Electoral Commission, as reported by the Daily News, has cited Section 47(1)(e) of the Constitution as the basis for his disqualification, which pertains to individuals imprisoned for more than 12 months without the option of a fine. As per the Constitution, Zuma will only be eligible to contest for office in 2029, at the age of 89. Despite his release from prison after serving two months of his 15-month sentence due to a presidential pardon, Zuma’s political future is restricted until 2029. Additionally, the party has unveiled its complete list of interim provincial co-ordinators and conveners, highlighting its presence across all nine provinces, including its stronghold in KwaZulu-Natal.
